Pentecost: A Conversation with Dick Gaffin and Nancy Guthrie
I recently had the great privilege of joining Nancy Guthrie and my mentor and friend Dr. Dick Gaffin for a podcast about Pentecost. Pentecost is a surprisingly under-appreciated moment in the history of redemption. As Nancy points out, we in the protestant church make a big deal about Christmas and Easter, but rarely do we celebrate or even mention Pentecost on the church calendar. Ironically, Pentecost is the only one of those “holidays” mentioned in the NT!
Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus to avoid spending time in the province of Asia, for he was in a hurry to reach Jerusalem, if possible, by the day of Pentecost (Acts 20:16).
So in this interview we discuss Pentecost as a central theme in Acts, while also exploring its redemptive-historical and ecclesiological significance.
I’m posting the “extended edition” of the interview that we published on the the RTS Washington Faculty Podcast, but you can also check out the abridged version at Conversations on the Bible with Nancy Guthrie. You’ll also find a number of other episodes by Nancy on the book of Acts at that link, so I heartily recommend subscribing!
